Welcome to Week 4.
Last week you defined the conditions for a life well lived. This week asks a different question: not what would need to be true, but who you'd need to become for it to actually happen.
Most future-self work stops at one image — the hoped-for version, the one that sounds good and costs nothing to say. On its own, that version tends to drift toward fantasy. This week works with three selves instead: your Hoped Self, your Expected Self (the honest default — who you become if nothing changes), and your Feared Self (a realistic extrapolation of your current patterns, left unattended — not melodrama, just neglect).
The hypothesis: three well-described selves are just a mood board. The roads between here and each one are what turn this into something you can actually act on.
What to do:
For each self, write who they are and one concrete scene from their ordinary day. Then, for each, answer the same question: what would need to happen, or keep happening, for me to actually become this person? Compare all three roads and find the fork — the earliest point they diverge from where you are today. Close with 3–5 identity statements.
Post here when:
- 🟢 Early in the week — Share your Expected Self. This is usually the hardest one to write honestly, and the most useful one for the group to read.
- 🟡 Mid-week — Share your fork — the earliest divergence point you found. Ask the thread if it actually sounds like the earliest fork, or a later, more comfortable one.
- 🔵 End of week — Share one identity statement you're least confident you're actually living up to right now.
A ground rule for this thread:
The Feared Self is the one people are most tempted to soften or skip when posting publicly. Don't. A believable feared self is more useful to the group than a comfortable one — and it's usually what makes someone else's fork visible to them too.
Go find your fork. 🛤️
