The Origin
For years, "scientist" wasn't just my job. It was my identity. I went to lunch and thought about my incubator. I sat in the cinema and mentally clocked when I'd need to leave to check an experiment. I cut dinners short for the lab.
Then I left. And I found out I still had no idea who I was without it.
So I did what I was trained to do: I treated it like a question worth testing. I wrote about it on LinkedIn — no strategy, just an honest post about identity after science. It hit 120,000 views. And in the DMs, I found dozens of people asking the exact same question, from a dozen different starting points — not just scientists. Consultants, doctors, lawyers, founders, directors, anyone whose title had quietly become the answer to "who am I."
That's what became The Identity Conversation.
What It Is
The Identity Conversation is not a course that tells you what to become. It's a structured space to run the experiment on your own career (hypothesis, test, data, iterate) alongside people who are running the exact same experiment on themselves.
You'll work through your own transferable skills, test small hypotheses about what you could do next (including things you'd never put on a CV), and build a peer group that actually understands what it means to leave a career that used to be 90% of your identity.
This isn't about convincing you to leave your field, or anything else. Some people in the program are staying exactly where they are and just want their identity back. Some are already three career pivots in. The one thing everyone shares is the question: who am I outside of my job title?
How It Works
We treat career reinvention the way high performers are trained to treat everything else: as a rigorous process, not a leap of faith.
1. Hypothesis: What do you think you might want, or might be capable of? We don't assume you know yet, most people don't, and that's the starting point, not a failure.
2. Test: Small, low-stakes experiments. Not "quit your job and start a business." More like: could you get one person to pay you $5 for a skill you've never monetized? Could you write a CV in a completely different language than the one you trained in? Could you have one honest conversation about what your actual daily life should look like?
3. Data: What happened? Not "did I succeed or fail," but what did you actually learn. Rejections are data too.
4. Iterate: Adjust and run it again. This is the part your career never explicitly taught you, even though you were doing versions of it the whole time.
What's Inside the Program
- Live sessions — a mix of working sessions and invited guests with unconventional paths (yes, there really is a scientist who designs zero-gravity experiment kits, and someone who went from developmental psychology to selling cars because she refused to let introversion define her — the range is the point)
- A structured weekly challenge track — not busywork, but staged prompts that build on each other week over week (skills inventory, strengths mapping, life-first design, monetization experiments, story and CV rebuild, and synthesis)
- A private forum and cohort chat — this is where the actual work happens. Peer exchange isn't a bonus feature here, it's the core mechanic. You'll get feedback from people outside your own head, and you'll give it too.
- Small group / pod structure — you won't be thrown into a room of 50 strangers. You'll have a smaller group you actually get to know an (hopefully!) become friends with
Who This Is For
You're a high-level professional — in science, medicine, law, consulting, tech, academia, or anywhere your title has quietly become your whole identity
You're mid-transition, thinking about a transition, or already out and still asking "so who am I now?"
You want structure and peer accountability, not another book you'll read half of
You're comfortable treating your own career like data — including the parts that don't work
Who This Isn't For
- People looking for someone to tell them exactly what job to take next (we don't do that — we help you test and find out)
- People who want a purely academic or purely emotional support group with no structure at all
